It is with regret that I must inform everyone that the Madison County Sheriff’s Office will no longer be able to provide deputies as School Resource Officers to the Huntsville School District. It has been challenging to recruit and retain quality individuals to an already understaffed sheriff’s office, but the situation has become untenable to the point that tough decisions must be made. We are soon to have four open deputy positions. Hiring four deputies, especially in a small agency, is a tough task, in and of itself, these days but to train and equip them in a timely manner and within already tight budget constraints would be a near impossibility and lessen our overall effectiveness in serving our citizens’ needs. To provide continued quality service to the citizens of Madison County, I felt this was the only option available to us. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office will continue to do whatever we can to help make our schools a safe environment for everyone and build positive relationships with the students and staff.
